Biography

Chicago native and German citizen Hannah Gisela Carroll has been most recently seen as Prince Orlofsky in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus with the Janiec Opera Company. In 2019, she graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Master’s Degree in Voice Performance and Literature. Throughout her time at Eastman, she played a variety of roles including Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Margaret Johnson in Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza.

 

Before her time at the Eastman School of Music, Carroll attended Northwestern University where she earned a BM and BA in Vocal Performance, Economics, and German with a concentration in German Business. She performed in various Northwestern Opera Productions as Laurie Moss in Copland’s The Tender Land, Rose Segal in John Musto's Later the Same Evening, Geraldine in Barber’s A Hand of Bridge, and Mrs. Gleaton in Floyd’s Susannah.

Being equally comfortable with both opera and musical theatre, Carroll has also been a part of theatre productions at Northwestern University starring as Columbia in The Rocky Horror Show and Mrs. Hopkins in My Fair Lady.

Carroll is passionate about giving back to the community through opera outreach. She will be performing Hansel in a student-friendly version of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel with Opera for the Young.
